Review Request Policy and Information

Review Policy:
Updated 1-13-13

I am currently NOT ACCEPTING review requests at this time. This will be updated as soon as I'm able to take review requests again.

My review request list is backlogged and I feel that I should focus on the books that I have already committed to review before accepting any more books.  The reviews I have already committed to will be read in the order they were received/deadline date.

I am however open to interviews, spotlights etc, please feel free to contact me with those requests

To Authors and Publishers:

I will gladly accept book review requests from authors and publishers. In your review request, please be sure to include the title, synopsis, formats available and the date you would like the review completed and posted by, if you have one.

In terms of formats, I definitely prefer hard copies, but am open to reviewing e-books as well. If e-books are the only format available then I will need a mobi format as I use a Kindle.

Melissa's Midnight Musings does not have a particular genre of focus. I read and review a wide variety of books. Of course, there are certain genres I prefer over others.

Please be aware that acceptance of a book does not guarantee a review.  If for some reason I begin a book and cannot finish it, whether due to plot holes, formatting, etc, I will let you know this and will not give the book a review.

I read review requests in the order in which they were received. As I do get books from multiple sources generally I do 1-2 review requests, then I read a book I've won, borrowed or bought.

I post reviews here on Melissa's Midnight Musings, and on Goodreads.com. I also post links to my reviews on my Facebook page and Twitter account. If you wish to have your reviews cross posted to another location, please specify this in your review request.

Please note that I reserve the right to decline any book review request that I receive.

My Review Style:

I include a synopsis of the book, and then my review.

I am still working on perfecting my review style, but generally speaking I do not like to completely pick books apart. I mainly talk about the feelings and thoughts evoked by the work. I also talk about character development, setting, and general overall structure of the book. My reviews are extremely honest, as I feel that honesty is more constructive than empty praise.  If you are only looking for praise and not constructive criticism, I may not be the right person to review your book.

An Important Note About The Honesty/Objectivity I Put Forth in My Reviews:

I try my best to be honest, straightforward and objective with each and every review that I write. Not every review I write is positive, but when the review does happen to be negative, it is written with objectivity and in as professional a manner as possible. I do not censor my thoughts or opinions to spare anyone's feelings. True honesty is important because as a reader of blogs and books alike, that is what I wish to read in reviews, so that I can be well informed when making a decision about whether or not to read a book. I wish to extend that same courtesy to the readers of this blog.

Please note that providing a book to Melissa's Midnight Musings for review purposes does not guarantee a positive review. If I enjoy a book, I will say so, and will explain why I enjoyed it. The same process goes for books that I don't enjoy. If I don't enjoy a book, I will not hesitate to say so, but I will be sure to explain why I didn't care for the book and I will still recommend that my blog followers read the book and decide for themselves whether they like it or not.

I will not apologize for my honesty or my opinions contained within my reviews. Just because I may not care for any particular book does not mean that the book itself is bad. All reviews posted on Melissa's Midnight Musings are my opinion and nothing more. That said, no matter whether I enjoy a book or not, I always encourage the readers of this blog to read the book and decide for themselves. Just because I may not like a book doesn't mean that my readers won't enjoy it.

Genres and Subjects that I prefer:

  • Young Adult
  • New Adult
  • Biographies
  • Memoirs
  • Non-Fiction
  • Paranormal
  • Romance
  • Children's books
  • Women's Fiction
  • Health Centered Fiction
  • Adult Fiction
  • Travel
  • Baseball
  • Psychology
  • Sociology

Genres and Subjects that I will most likely decline:

  • Sci-Fi
  • Books with deeply religious undertones (exceptions may be made for books that are considered to be more "spiritual" than religious)
  • Westerns
  • Military
  • Political, though I will read some that catch my interest
  • Stories where the main focus is on zombies

I do SOMETIMES make exceptions in these genres on a case-by-case basis.

Special note:

I WILL accept erotic books for review, but I will ONLY post reviews for books containing erotic subject matter  on Goodreads. I do not wish to give my blog an adult content rating, so any erotic books will only be reviewed on Goodreads.

All review, blog tour, interview and guest post requests can be sent to MelissasMidnightMusings@gmail.com
