Remember, Remember, the 5th of November!
It is impossible to grow up in the UK and not know about the 5th November. While some may not know the history behind the date, the rhyme and the quantity of events and fireworks that go off around the date. As this weekend is the big one before the date, this week we're talking about 5th November. Do you know about Guy Fawkes Day? Do you have any memories of good firework displays (5th of November related or otherwise)? Do you like fireworks?
In relation to media, have you seen any films with great firework displays or books that describe a display well or any that realte to Guy Fawkes Day?
I have lots of memories of good fireworks shows, plenty of July 4th celebrations come to mind for those. I've also seen a couple of fireworks shows for Canada Day (July 1) as well. The best ones in terms of the beauty of the displays are always the ones that you see on TV, the big ones in New York. Or, shows put on by other major cities like San Francisco or Chicago.
I like to see pictures at least of all the different ones from around the world too, especially on Year's sometimes there are smaller fireworks shows that put a lot of attention into the details which is nice.
To be honest though, I'm not a huge fan of fireworks. I like the shows, they're always pretty, but I'm easily startled by loud noises, even when I know they're coming, so fireworks aren't my favorite thing. I do like the general atmosphere of excitement surrounding the events where fireworks are used though.
Books/Media:
I'm drawing a complete blank on books that feature fireworks displays. Oh, well there's always Harry Potter of course, particularly in Order of the Phoenix when Fred and George put on their display to make their grand exit from Hogwarts.

I'm ashamed...I have no idea what Guy Fawkes day is!! I think I better head to Google. The only book I can think of that has a fireworks scene is Wicked Game by Jeri Smith-Ready.
Andrea, it's okay, I don't know a whole lot about Guy Fawkes day either! I'll have to check out Wicked Game sometime.
@ Andrea - It's a day, a long, long time ago when Guy Fawkes tried to blow up the London Parliment buildings using Gun powder (or something) but he failed, so now we British peeps celebrate on the 5th November that our parliment buildings still stand :D
@ Melissa - I can see why you wouldn't like fireworks if you don't like loud noises! Watching them on tv with the sound off is one way to get the effect of the super awesome spectacular scenes they make in the sky :)
Also, HOW DID I FORGET ABOUT HARRY POTTER?
I feel ashamed of myself, lol. :P

LOL don't feel bad I only remembered it at the very last minute.
Fireworks make me think of the epic display in the first Lord of the Rings film. :)
