Valentine's Day

It's Valentine's day. Some call it the day of love, some call it a hallmark holiday. I'm kind of in the middle of the road on that one. I do think it's overly commercialized, but at the same time, I do like being a  bit spoiled on Valentine's Day. I like romance, what can I say?

This Valentine's Day though, I'm a little bummed. I'm not single, and yet I don't get to spend the day with my love either, so I fall into some weird in between group. I'm not even sure what to call it. Seeing all the posts, and happy pictures stings a little, but despite that, I can and do still appreciate the sentimentality of the day.

If I had a few, I would probably read a romance novel or two today.

Besides love for the people in my life, there are lots of books that I love. I can't even begin to name them all, so I'll name just a few: The Outsiders, The Harry Potter Series, My Left Foot, My Name is Memory

In the spirit of love, please tell me, what are some of the books that you love?

Hey Melissa!

Guess what? I'm in a relationship and I didn't get to see my man on Valentine's Day as well, so you weren't alone! He lives an hour away, so we mainly see each other on the weekends. I teach, so can you imagine how my day was, yesterday, surrounded by a bunch of hormonal teenagers, thinking they are in love? lol So don't fret! You are not alone!

My first love is romance novels, that's what got my started reading. I used to be into Native American historical romances by the author Cassie Edwards. I'm hoping to do a post on her one day :)

Have a great day!

Thanks Mia, glad to know I wasn't the only one! Hormonal teenagers had to be tough to watch, I only had to combat with cheesy valentine shows and commercials (and facebook posts) yesterday so it wasn't too bad. I did read a good chunk of the book I'm reading.

I love The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett, David Copperfield by Charles Dickens, One Door Away from Heaven by Dean Koontz, Cry to Heaven by Anne Rice, The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein, and You Are Here by Thich Nhat Hanh. There are really so many more but those are the books that I've read many times over. :-)

So many books to love! In the spirit of Valentine's day (which my girlfriend and I generally ignore) I'll go with an odd pick - House of Leaves by Mark Danielewski. SOOOOOO good. Nothing to do with romance at all, but it's a twisted and brilliant little book. If you haven't read it, I highly recommend it!

@Charity: You just reminded me that I actually haven't read The Secret Garden (sad I know)

@Chris: My boyfriend and I usually don't go too overboard with Valentine's day. I do ask for a card, but I can do without the flowers or chocolate and all of that. We have actually made getting pizza and wine a bit of an unintentional tradition for VDay.

I just looked up House of Leaves on Goodreads, it looks like something I would really enjoy. I added it to my to read list, thanks for the recommendation :)
